You don’t need a tandoor oven to make this homemade Naan bread. All you need is a cast iron skillet or a frying pan, that’s it! The preparation time in this recipe included the rising time of the dough. Naan bread is very easy to make; it is soft and fluffy!

Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour plus extra for rolling
- ยฝ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil plus 1 teaspoon to oil the bowl
- ยฝ tsp dry active yeast
- ยฝ tsp granulated sugar
- ยผ cup plain yogurt(I have used Greek yogurt)
- ยผ cup lukewarm water plus 1 to 2 tbsp
- ยผ cup melted ghee or butter to brush the Naans
Instructions

First, put about 2 tablespoons of lukewarm water in a bowl then add the sugar and yeast.

Stir the yeast and let it sit for a couple of minutes until frothy.

In another bowl, put flour, salt, olive oil (1 tbsp) and mix everything well with a spoon.

Add yogurt and the yeast mixture then mix again.

Get your hands in the flour mixture and add water little at the time. You can use a stand mixer, but I personally prefer using my hands first to know how much water needed.

Mix everything well until the dough gets together.

Knead the dough on a working board or use a stand mixer for a couple of minutes on low(about 5 minutes) until obtain a soft dough. The soft dough may be a little bit sticky.

Oil a bowl and place the dough in it. Make sure to lightly coat the dough all over with olive oil(about 1 tsp).

Let rise for about 2 to 3 hours(it depends of the temperature of your kitchen).

Place the dough on a slightly floured working board. Knead it just to deflate it and divide it into small balls.

Roll each ball into a disc (or oval shape) with a rolling pin or by handsย to about ยผ inch thick or less(as you prefer). Let rest for 5 minutes.

Place a cast iron skillet on the stove over medium to medium high heat.

Slightly oil the cast iron skillet.

Place the dough disc in the cast iron skillet (or frying pan)
and reduce the heat to medium low.

Cook for about 1 to 2 minutes until you see the bubbles on the disc and an air pocket forming.

Flip the disc over and let the other side cook for 1 to 2 minutes.

Brush the Naan bread with ghee or butter(or even olive oil).

Place in a plate and cover with a kitchen towel.

Continue cooking the other dough discs or Naans. Once cooked and brushed with ghee or butter, stuck them on top of each other to keep them warm and cover with kitchen towel.
